About OM Sanctuary

OM Sanctuary’s retreat center is located in Asheville, North Carolina, on a 54-acre campus nestled in the ancient Appalachian Mountains overlooking the French Broad River just minutes from downtown. The center has 16 Sanctuary Pavillion rooms, dining, 9 Woodland Cottages, 2 Cabins, a Renewal Center with outdoor baths  and 42 acres of protected forest.  This is a perfect setting that invites guests to unwind, immerse in holistic programming, and retreat in a natural environment. 

Position Overview

The Launch Retreat Director is the strategic and operational leader responsible for collaborating in the phased opening of OM Sanctuary. This is an on-site leadership role requiring strong project management, team building, and operational execution.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Opening Strategy
Lead the phased opening of the retreat center, including planning, staffing, and operational readiness. Partner with the board’s Strategic Launch Committee. 

Team Building and Management
Hire, train, and lead staff across all departments including operations, wellness, programing,  facilities, and administration. Build a strong, aligned team culture and clear performance expectations.

Operations and Guest Experience
Oversee all aspects of retreat operations including lodging, food and beverage, wellness programming, and facilities. Establish service standards and create a seamless, high-quality guest experience.

Financial and Organizational Management
Manage budgets, forecasting, and financial performance. Support fundraising strategies, donor relations, and revenue generation through retreats, programs, and rentals.

Programming and Community Engagement
Ensure wellness programming aligns with the organization’s mission. Support development of meaningful retreat offerings and reengage the local and wellness community.

Facilities and Compliance
Oversee maintenance, grounds, and infrastructure. Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and implementation of sustainable practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

7+ years nonprofit leadership in a retreat setting or resort, preference given for prior executive experience in a resort/retreat center with wellness-oriented environment within a body-mind-spirit centered educational setting

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Hospitality Management, Organizational Leadership, Wellness Studies, Recreation/Leisure Studies, or a closely related field; or equivalent combination of education and progressive leadership experience (minimum 7 years) in a retreat center, nonprofit organization, wellness environment, or mission-driven hospitality setting.

 Desired: 

Master’s degree in Nonprofit Leadership, Business Administration (MBA), Organizational Development, Integrative Health, or related discipline.

Formal training or certification in areas aligned with holistic wellness (e.g., yoga, meditation, mindfulness facilitation, spiritual direction, coaching, trauma-informed leadership).

Demonstrated experience leading within a retreat center, educational sanctuary, or wellness-focused organization.

Work Environment and Requirements

This role requires an active on-site presence, including evenings and weekends during retreats. The position involves navigating outdoor terrain, standing for extended periods, and occasional lifting (up to 40–50 pounds). The Director must be prepared to respond to operational needs and maintain a safe, calm environment at all times.

Compensation

Competitive contract compensation based on experience. On-site housing provided. Opportunity for long-term leadership role following successful launch.
