Asheville Meditation Center (AMC)

is a 501(c)(3) spiritual non-profit organization and an exclusive affiliate of OM Sanctuary, with all AMC programming taking place at OMS. The classes and offerings at OM Sanctuary are under the guidance of spiritual director Jerome Smith, an ordained Pandit of the Himalayan Tradition. Jerome has been a member of Yoga Alliance since 2000 and is registered at the E-RYT 500 level. Through the Asheville Meditation Center, Jerome offers ongoing weekly classes, enrichment seminars, multi-week series, and personal or group meditation retreats. All programs are open to beginners and can be built upon in succession to enhance and deepen your education and training in meditation.

Weekly Holistic Class

Part I: This donation-based weekly program is an integral service offering based on the spiritual mission of Asheville Meditation Center. The class is open to the public on a donation basis.

Please join Asheville Meditation Center for a weekly meditation (Satsang) at OM Sanctuary. This hour-long session will include guided relaxation, seated meditation, and time for questions and discussion. Beginners are welcome, along with experienced practitioners who wish to meditate in community. Please wear comfortable clothing and feel free to bring your own mat and meditation cushion. There will be mats and cushions available for those in need. If lodging at OM Sanctuary as an overnight retreatant, please refrain from removing pillows or any other items from your rooms for this or any other class.

Meditation LearnShops (Enrichment Seminars)

Part II: Meditation LearnShops are designed to give participants an overview of the practice and process of meditation. Participants will learn practical skills such as diaphragmatic breathing, systematic relaxation, and being still in a seated posture. These LearnShops also provide a way to prepare students to go deeper by attending four-week courses, private sessions, weekend retreats etc.

Meditation is a necessary step along the path of Yoga. Asana practice gently leads us within and starts to prepare us for meditation. Come learn the principles of meditation and how to develop a regular practice.

Many recent studies recommend the benefits of meditation and how it enhances daily life. Meditation techniques are known to reduce stress, promote deep sleep, and give one an overall sense of peace and well-being.

You will learn:

Receive a basic foundation for starting or continuing your own daily practice.
Examine the simple practices of breath awareness, systematic relaxation, and seated meditation
Tools for managing the restless mind, which can disturb the inner peace.

Four Week Meditation Series

This is an all levels series where participants will receive a solid foundation for a consistent meditation practice. Participants may also receive continued guidance through private sessions, personal (or group) meditation retreats.

Self Mastery through Meditation

Meditation is an art and a science. It has been practiced in many forms by different cultures throughout history. It is a tool to gain inner peace and wisdom, spiritual experience, and it gives one the ability to master themselves in a way that leads to proficiency in everyday life.

In this four-week course, participants will learn the foundational practices of meditation such as breath awareness and systematic relaxation. Mantra is another esoteric practice that will be taught along the meditative path. There will be practice time as well as discussion of the spiritual and practical philosophy. Participants are invited to delve deeper and expand on what is taught, by given to “hOMeplay” to complete during the week between classes.

This course is appropriate for all levels with any level of experience in meditation; beginners, those who already practice, or yoga teachers who wish to incorporate meditation in their class structure. This course will count for continuing education credits under Yoga Alliance.

Personal or Group Meditation Retreats

Stage IV: The benefit to these private or group retreats is for the participants to immerse themselves in the experience of OM Sanctuary with a specific purpose of spiritual exploration and self-discovery. Meditation related techniques are the ultimate focus within the practices and experiences of the weekend including other holistic classes, wellness treatments, and programs offered on campus.

We invite participants to immerse themselves in the spiritually, enriching environment of OM Sanctuary. Whether enjoying the sounds of nature while walking the beautiful grounds or partaking in three delicious meals a day, there will always be a new opportunity to enhance your meditative practices. There will be time for focused instruction, including relaxed breathing sessions and guided meditation practice. For participants to personally meditate, there will also be time for quiet contemplation, with suggested readings and practices.

To enhance the weekend, there are other opportunities for a deeper, immersive experience, such as:
